Tangier's World Cup stadium gets a biometric security upgrade

Biometric Update · Anadolu AgencyAug 2026

Tangier's Grand Stade de Tanger, redeveloped to a capacity of around 75,600, has been equipped with a facial-recognition security system and roughly 900 surveillance cameras inside and around the venue ahead of the 2030 World Cup.

The upgrade is part of Morocco's wider modernisation of stadiums and transport for the tournament, which it co-hosts with Spain and Portugal. Tangier is one of six Moroccan host cities.

The city's rising profile — sport, industry and logistics — is reshaping the coast opposite Gibraltar.
