Morocco's $4bn hotel push builds toward 2030

Morocco drew 7.7 million international visitors between January and May 2026, with May alone up 13% year on year, as it gears up to co-host the 2030 World Cup. Tourism receipts rose about 21% over the first four months of the year.

The government is investing roughly $4 billion to raise hotel capacity by around 20% — some 60,000 new beds — within a broader programme of more than $20 billion across airports, rail, stadiums and urban infrastructure. The 2030 target is 30 million visitors a year.

Tangier, a host city just across the water from Gibraltar, is among the beneficiaries.
