Community & Culture

Community & Culture

Education, sport, culture and charitable initiatives that strengthen ties across the Strait.

GMBA supports community and charitable work through the Strait of Gibraltar Association Trust, a locally registered charity (charity 328, registered 2021).

Designated causes include 100% Mamans in Tangier, Men in Need Gibraltar and the Attawassol Association (Sinwane Centre) for hearing-impaired children in Tangier.

The Strait of Gibraltar Association promotes bilateral relations between Gibraltar and Morocco across education, volunteering, culture, the arts and sport, in partnership with the Gibraltar Morocco Business Association. In 2021 it registered the Strait of Gibraltar Association Trust as a locally based charity (charity 328) to help non-governmental organisations across Gibraltar and Morocco raise funds and run awareness and collection campaigns for specific groups — single parents, disabled people and children, and young people on both sides of the Strait.

Its four designated charities are:

100% Mamans — A Tangier association, formed over twenty years ago, supporting single mothers through pregnancy with medical and psychological care and training, and running a nursery so mothers can work and become independent.

Men in Need Gibraltar — A Gibraltar charity supporting individuals and families through difficult times, working alongside other local charities and services.

Attawassol (Sinwane Centre) — The Association for the Education, Teaching and Qualification of Hearing-Impaired Children in Tangier, working for over a decade on education, sign-language training, empowerment and advocacy for deaf children.

Assadaka (Friendship) Association — Founded in Tangier in 2005 to integrate mentally disabled children into society and support their psychological, physical and intellectual development.
